CRC typically develops in the colon or rectum over time, from adenomas – pre-cancerous polyps evolving in the inner colorectal surface (mucosa). Adenomas can be detected and removed in screening (first-time) and surveillance (follow-up) colonoscopy, which allows both detection and removal of adenomas in a single procedure.
Accordingly, detection of adenomas is a quality criterion for colonoscopies in Germany(2), and screening colonoscopy is covered by all private insurance plans for women and men aged 50 and above, under the German Ministry of Health regulations(3).
Nevertheless, adenomas are still missed in colonoscopy, as they may hide within the colon folds and flexures or be masked by the colon topography, and remain undetected. According to clinical publication, as much as 26% of adenomas are missed during colonoscopy, in average(2),(4).
The G-EYE® colonoscope (G-EYE®) is a standard colonoscope having a unique balloon installed at its forward tip section. During colonoscopy, the G-EYE® balloon softly engages the colon walls, unfolds and flattens colon folds, centralizes the optics within the colonic lumen, prevents colonoscope slippage in the bowel, and assists in controlling the view-field and positioning of the colonoscope.
Numerous clinical studies demonstrated that compared to standard colonoscopy, the G-EYE® detects substantially more adenomas, and misses substantially less adenomas(1).

You are undergoing screening or surveillance colonoscopy once every several years in average.
You are going through colon preparation, missing a day at work, undergoing minimally invasive examination, all with the goal of detecting and removing adenomas.
For the same preparation, sedation, and time allocation – with G-EYE® you can get substantially increased adenoma detection and substantially reduced adenoma miss-rate(7).
With an estimated number of one million procedures performed worldwide over the years in more than 300 endoscopy rooms, The G-EYE® is established as a safe, effective, state-of-the-art colonoscopy solution.
With the vision of providing patients with the highest level of colonoscopy, Smart Medical Systems, the exclusive developer, manufacturer and distributor of the G-EYE®, is partnering with highly qualified endoscopy centers to form G-EYE® Centers of Excellence, offering the unique G-EYE® colonoscopy in highest-quality, patient-centered settings. Preparation to your G-EYE® procedure is identical to preparation to standard colonoscopy. Colonoscopy preparation involves a multi-step process including dietary restrictions and taking a laxative to completely empty the bowels. Typically, patients are instructed to follow a low-fiber diet few days prior to the procedure, and on the day before the examination to switch to a clear liquid diet and begin drinking the prescribed laxative solution, often in a split dose, to clean the colon. You will be provided with detailed instructions by your doctor following your pre-procedure appointment. Be sure to review and follow your doctor’s specific instructions, a clean colon is very important for colon visualization and successful examination. Also, make sure to arrange for a ride home after the procedure, as you will not be able to drive due to the residual post-sedation effect.
The Hamburg Center, like other G-EYE® Centers of Excellence, is a private endoscopy clinic that accepts privately insured and self paying patients only.
